It’s a long cold winter, but it doesn’t have to be boring, too.  Beat the blahs with a warm winter party. It’s a perfect time to reconnect with friends and have fun.  Or maybe you’re already planning an event such as an anniversary or sweet 16 celebration.  If you’re looking for inspiration for a big occasion in January or February or just a casual get together,  here are sixteen ideas to get you started.

1. If you’re having trouble finding a great winter party invitation, then look for a company that can customize one of their Christmas invitations or cards that is filled with snowflakes, snow, or a snowman.  Ask them to eliminate the holiday aspect of it and make it just a winter theme.

2. Decorate with tons of white and accents of silver and icy blue.  Use fabrics like chiffon, gossamer and other shears to create a winter fantasy feel.

3. Scented candles can enhance the atmosphere of a winter party.  Try scents like evergreen, hot cocoa or apple pie.

4. Do you own a sled?  Clean it up and use it as a decoration or even on top of the table to hold platters of food.

5. Make a garland of mittens.  Attach every pair your family owns to a ribbon and hang it across the room.  If you don’t have enough gloves, you can pick up some extras at the dollar store.

6. Raid your box of Christmas decorations in the attic for your winter theme party.  Snowflake ornaments, white twinkling lights, silver garland, plastic icicles and snowmen can work both at Christmas and at your party in January or February.

7. Have a fondue party.  When your guests gather around the fondue pot to dip their bread cubes into the warm cheese sauce, the conversations will flow.  Plus, since they’re doing their own cooking with the sauces you prepared ahead of time, you’ll have a chance to join in the fun, instead of being stuck in the kitchen.

8. Cook up your famous chili recipe.  Nothing warms your guests more than your homemade chili, French onion soup or beef stew.  A winter party is a great time to serve those stick to your ribs, comfort foods.

9. Feature gourmet hot chocolates in a variety of flavors.  Don’t forget the whipped cream and marshmallows!

10. Make your own ice sculpture.  You can buy inexpensive reusable molds on the internet in a variety of shapes.  Simply fill the mold about 90 percent with distilled water, freeze for 48 hours and unmold.

11. Winter party favors can be anything with a snowflake motif.  How about magnets with a snowflake background and personalized message like, “Your friendship warms the coldest winter - Jane and Barry Parker”? A quick online search and you’ll find lots of products that can be customized with your words and even a photo.

12. Plan your winter party around a seasonal activity such as sledding or ice skating.

13. If you don’t want to remind your guest of the cold, ice and snow, why not have a luau or Caribbean theme? Borrow some CD’s from the library of Hawaiian or reggae music.  Decorate with fake palm trees, seashells and flowers.  Blend some coconut drinks.   Break up the winter by going tropical and your guests are sure to think your party is hot.

14. Build your party around a holiday or event.  Have a Valentine’s Day party or a Super Bowl bash.  Turn President’s Day, Groundhog Day or Chinese New Year into a fun get together.  Check the internet for obscure special days to celebrate like Elvis’ birthday on January 8th,  Winnie the Pooh day on January 18th or National Gum Drop Day on February 15th.  Plan a party to watch the Grammy’s or the Academy Awards.  And don’t forget Mardi Gras!

15. Throw an ugly sweater party.  Invite your guests to wear their most hideous winter woolen-wear.  It might be a gift they received from a well-meaning relative during the holidays.  Or it could be a 20 year old impulse buy hanging in the back of their closet with the tags still attached.  Whoever makes it to the top of the worst dressed list, wins a prize.

16. Consider including a “snow date” on your invitations.  If you live in an area that gets a lot of bad winter weather, you might want to add an alternate date for the party, in the event that the forecast is for slippery roads.  Explain that you will call them before the party to change the date.  If you decide to go this route, make sure you plan your menu around make-ahead foods that you freeze.  In the event that the party is postponed, you won’t have to buy or make new party food.

So send out those invitations and get ready for a great winter party.  Your guests will be thrilled that you planned something fun and memorable to break up the cold weather blues.

Ok. I want an inexpensive party somewhere for my 13th birthday. It’ll be my first birthday party with guys and they are my best friends. I’ve already looked at big al’s and that was too expensive.

I’m inviting 5 people (3 girls 2 guys) and I want to do something fun. My birthday is going to be in November and I can’t find anything fun to do that is under $100.00.

Nobody wants to throw a plain party with no inspiration and style. This is the very reason why you need great party ideas to help you transform your parties from mundane to impressive. It really does not matter what kind of party your are having because you will find ideas for every party. Party ideas help you to plan the ceremony well without missing any detail as well as save you a lot of time deciding on different matters to do with the occasion. You may be planning a birthday party, a baby shower, dinner party, a bachelor party, a valentines party and the types parties are endless. The first thing you do is to picture the party in your mind and see clearly what you want to have for the party.

Party ideas work best when you allow plenty of time for planning. This means that you need to start the preparations well in advance. Last minute parties always manage to have a flaw and you need to take your time. By doing this, you will reduce the chances of being overwhelmed by stuff greatly. Start by getting the things you need and by writing down the things you need to buy as well as making crucial decisions like whether to cook or to have catering from outside. You then need to think of creative ideas for decorations. Use plenty of color depending on the kind of party you are having. Look for more ideas and alternative things to do with your decorations.

Decorations will be determined by your party ideas for themes. Themes are the focal points of any party and they set the rhythm in a room. There are numerous themes you can do and the first thing to consider is the kind of party you are having. If it is a birthday party, the birthday girl or boy will decide on their chosen theme to go with their party. This will reflect on something they love like horses, soccer, superheroes and many more. Make sure you have a clear theme that will not be confusing to guests. After this, you need party ideas for food and drinks. If you plan to make meals, know the number of people you will cater for. Also, maintain the taste of food but, if you find that you cannot handle cooking, find some help or have the ceremony catered.

You also need to have party ideas for food and drinks. Traditional, you will find foods that are unhealthy and full of sugar. This trend is mapping out and more and more healthy foods are being used in parties. Make children’s parties as health as possible because unlike adults, they will not speak out about unhealthy food. You need ideas for entertainment and if the crowd is not large enough you can arrange on how they are going to self entertain. Do not forget to join into the fun as the party proceeds.

What is purple, large and likes to sing? Well, the answer is Barney and since he debuted years ago, he has proven to be incredibly popular for kids of the past decade through his singing, dancing and dinosaur-sized fun.

Even today, you will find your kids may want to have a Barney themed birthday party and you can provide it with these party ideas.

Make Barney

Using cardboard cutouts, or even foam (but this is harder), each kid can paint and decorate their own Barney. There is nothing saying that they have to have a purple dinosaur, it can be green, blue or pink. This can be a lot of fun with the kids because they will be able to make a Barney-look alike, and they will be able to take the dinosaur home with them.

Pin the Tail on Barney

With a large picture of Barney, you can play a new version of Pin The Tail On The Donkey. The kids, who will be blindfolded, can try and put Barney’s tail on him. See who gets it the closest and who is way off the mark. Make sure you give the kids prizes for each attempt they have. There are no winners, just a whole lot of fun for everyone.

Learn About Dinosaurs

Barney is a dinosaur, so why not have the kids learn about dinosaurs? This can be done through a Dinosaur Safari, or by simply having dinosaur models set up for the children to be inspired by. You never know, you may ignite a lifelong passion in a kid who will grow up to be a paleontologist.

Barney is a really interesting character that has become incredibly popular over the past years. So much so, that he is now a pop culture icon and something 20-somethings remember from their own youth. It is an interesting show, and a show that has helped teach kids about the world around them, and being nice to others.

Your children may love this show, and they may want to have a Barney themed birthday party. Luckily, with your imagination and these party ideas, you can easily pull it off.

It is for girls ages 6-11 and at their party they get to be pop stars for the day. They will learn a dance routine, dress up and sing karaoke whilst being filmed so they can watch themselves back.

I want it to sound girly and catchy.

Retirement is one of those inevitable events in our lives where we mark a new beginning with the closure of a long, tedious and rewarding working life. It therefore calls for a party to celebrate milestones and to look forward to a future with so many possibilities. Retirement party ideas will therefore be vital to consider to make the whole occasion not only a success but, one to remember for years to come. Many parties are planned by family members and planning the party with the best ideas will ensure that the retirement party goes better than planned. The first thing you consider for any party is the theme. A theme will be determined by what the guest of honor loves and if it is a surprise party, you will already have in mind something they would love. Decide on the theme then move to invitation ideas.

Retirement party ideas for invitations are many and you can do what you wish in fact, the best thing is, to do the unexpected. Add an adventurous feel to the invitations to show that the person retiring is just beginning in life. Since there are no specific rules for this, evaluate the tools you have and be creative. One idea is to send a theme item where details of the party attached to it. Details are crucial and they include the date of the event, the venue and time of the party. Another detail that you should always include is the name of the guest of honor in this case the person who is exiting from their career. Make the invitations as inviting as possible so that the guests can look forward to the party.

The next item for retirement party ideas is the decorations. When you are going with a particular theme, you will be inspired by it to have similar decorations but, if you do not have a particular theme, do everything that the retiree would love. This might be a color or a hobby like fishing. Hang memorabilia to show the hobby and preferences of the guest of honor. You can hang banners to reflect the theme and you can also add pictures which will show the retiree at work doing what he or she did best. Such photos will bring an emotion and make everyone appreciate how far they have come. The decorations should bring out achievement and inspiration.

Believe it or not, there are so many retirement party ideas for games and activities and if you have ever been to such a party with great activities, you will know that it can be so much fun. One of the most thoughtful game is where everyone gives their idea to the retiree on the best pass time or activity they can engage in with all the free time they are going to have on their hands. This game can actually be a source of inspiration to the guest of honor and it should therefore be played at a retirement party.
